In groups students chose the American Revolution, French Revolution, or the Glorious Revolution and chose an artifact or building that represented one of the three revolutions. In the recreation of these buildings and or artifacts students focused on the accuracy in terms of details and how these are still relevant for democracy around the world.
Students learn about Carbohydrates, Lipids, Proteins and Nucleic Acids and how the body uses these organic compounds for fuel! Students learn the structures and how scientists detect these compounds in Labs. Students generate menus and perform calculations where fuel from Carbon bonds is converted into energy as calories that meet the specific daily requirements of 15%protein, 30% fat and 55% Carbohydrate. Additionally students chose nutritionally challenged subjects and designed specific menus designed for their specific need. This year we are proud to announce our first ever Artist-in-Residence collaboration at LVCP with Bay Area professional trombonist and educator, Andy Strain! Mr. Strain is working closely with members from the LVCP jazz band, and was also a featured performer at our fall student recital.
Gallaudet's Puppet Show Wow! American Sign Language is NOT based on English! Students research how ASL is related to Old Signed French. They learn how Gallaudet started Deaf Education in America, write their own puppet show scripts about the story, create their own puppets, and perform the shows for small groups of LVCS students. De'VIA- Deaf View Image Art Students researched De'VIA, created a pamphlet or digital display of what they learned, and then create their own piece of art and display it at an art show! Students created a giant 7 foot by 10 foot Periodic Table of Elements. Each student worked on an element and illustrated a “card” with all the Periodic Table information on it. They also created atomic timeline posters showing the history of various scientists’ contributions leading to discoveries of the atom.
This year we hope even more classes will join in a true celebration of project-based learning and participate with Ms. Ward Kelly's art classes in the cardboard challenge! See the one sheet below for more information and enjoy our photos from last year's students who participated in art, creative writing, robotics, architecture, dance and physical education classes.
The Film Production class created a short film about life in the 1940s titled “Boondoggle: Mission Bay.” In this project student wrote an original screenplay, directed the actors as well as created original art direction. The location for the film was chosen as Pier 45 in San Francisco which is run by the San Francisco Maritime Museum and contains the decommissioned WWII submarine the USS Pampanito. With some clever costuming choices and a strong setting the Film Production class ran the production crew for and edited the film completed with original sound design, score editing and color correction.
