Congratulations to our girls in technology team students: Juniors Nina Anderson, Laura Di Simone, Ami Thakur, Nicole Ninomoto and sophomore Isabelle Thier. Known as "Short Circuit", our LVCP team was one of only five high school teams invited to present at the Technovation Region Pitch Event in San Francisco. |
Guided by faculty advisor Anthony Anderson, Short Circuit spent four months creating an app called “Pick Me” that betters the community. The application was designed to help people who face obstacles in their everyday life; these can array from animal injuries to environmental issues to domestic violence. It allows the user to simply take a picture of their problem on their phone and send it to the responsible contact. Overall, this shortens the total time for resolving the matter and makes the emergency system more efficient on both ends.
The five girls submitted their app along with 5,000 other students from around the globe and presented their final product to judges at Yelp headquarters in downtown San Francisco on May 3, 2016. They received 2nd place along with an honorable mention. However, their journey doesn’t stop there.
Stay tuned as the girls plan on expanding and improving their application for the community.
